Seed Exchange

Spend the first day of spring getting in the “spring spirit” at the 3rd annual Seed Exchange being held in Kossuth County.
The Seed Exchange will take place on Monday, March 20th from 6 to 7 pm at the Burt Activity Complex (406 Bush St, Burt).   The event is being hosted by the Burt Public Library, ISU Extension and Outreach of Kossuth County, and Kossuth County Master Gardeners.  It is free to attend and open to all who are interested.
The event will kick off with a presentation on bee keeping and pollinators.  Kossuth County Master Gardener, Betsy Barglof, who will be one of the presenters, looks forward to sharing her knowledge.  “Pollinators and honeybees are fascinating, and it’s important to be aware of their impact on us and our environment,” Barglof says.
Following the presentation, event participants will have the opportunity to collect various flower and vegetable seeds.  A collection of seeds has been donated for the event through the Seed Savers Exchange Herman’s Garden Seed Donation Program as well as Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds.
Garden enthusiasts are also encouraged (not required) to bring seeds to share at the event. Seeds must be fresh, labeled, and not from F1 hybrids so they grow true to type. For more information on bringing your own seeds, visit https://www.extension.iastate.edu/smallfarms/saving-seeds-your-garden
